Elected Union Leadership
President (Business Agent): Michelle Williams
Pronouns: They/Them/Theirs Department: Sociology Research Interest: The intersection between gender and labor, particularly in queer sex work. On Why the Union Matters: The union matters to me because it puts the interests of workers before anything else. I love having solidarity with thousands of other workers, and I love enjoying the benefits and wages that the union has fought for in the past while also looking forward to helping secure even better conditions for myself and my fellow workers in the future. |
Co-Vice President (Chief Steward): Gabby Pascuzzi
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers Department: Psychology Research Interest: I'm currently a 3rd year in Social Psychology researching close relationships. In particular, I'm interested in how relationship processes interact with personal identities like gender and race. On Why the Union Matters: The union matters to me because UB relies on our labor as graduate workers and as a result, we need to ensure we are treated respectfully and compensated fairly. Being a part of the union is important to me because when I want my voice to be heard, I know that it is amplified by the collective and that together we have the power to effect change. |
Co-Vice President (Chief Steward): Eugene Koveos
Pronouns: He/Him/His Department: Comparative Literature Research Interest: Philosophy, art, social movements. On Why the Union Matters: Corporate greed destroys community. Labor unions, solidarity and movements for justice matter because we realize that we are already deeply connected and dependent on the people around us. By acting together, unions and movements give us the here-and-now sparks of strength and care for a better world to come. |
Campus Organizers
Organizer: Omar Elsherif
Pronouns: He/Him/His Department: Physics Research Interest: Cosmology, Computational Physics On Why the Union Matters: The Union matters by leveling the playing field, enabling us to negotiate fair wages and working conditions, acknowledging the vital role we play within the academic community. Organizer: Kit Lam
Pronouns: They/Them/Theirs and She/Her/Hers Department: Global Gender and Sexuality Studies Research Interest: Asian-Black solidarity, community building, and social movements On Why the Union Matters: The union matters to me, as a representation of the community that we as graduate workers are able to build with one another. It helps us know that we are not alone and that we are always supported by people who will fight for and alongside us. |
Organizer: Hanyu Liao
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers/It Department: Media Studies Research Interest: On Why the Union Matters: Lead Organizer: Joey Sechrist
Pronouns: They/Them/Theirs Department: English Research Interest: Marxism, Feminism, Social Reproduction, Proletarian Literature, and Globalization On Why the Union Matters: Unions give workers the autonomy to stand up for their own interests and fight for a democratic workplace. Without collective union power, we are at the whims of our employers and a legal structure skewed in their favor. |

I've been an organizer for several years, which has informed my support of union organizing, in general, and GSEU, specifically. Being part of a union is how we harness our collective power and push for conditions that meet our needs and move the needle towards racial, social, and economic justice. My research centers on white antiracist community organizing. I'm looking to support and inform grassroots organizing by digging into the work to move white folks into multiracial movements for racial justice.
