Fund Monies (and How to Access Them!)
Within our contract, GSEU has fought for graduate workers to receive what are considered 'fund monies' for a variety of different purposes, and we'll outline those below! Some are automatically credited to your paycheck once per semester, and others must be applied for:
Fee Mitigation Fund
Before we won abolition of broad-based fees, this fund used to provide members with additional money to cover a fraction of their fees. This is additional funding that GSEU fought to secure, so even though broad-based fees are covered, don't think that this fund is going away! You should still anticipate seeing a several hundred dollar bonus in your paycheck around October or November (in the Fall) and February or March (in the Spring).
Retention Fund
This fund automatically gives graduate workers a 'bonus' during the Spring semester, typically around April or May, of approximately $200, if they've been a TA or GA for two consecutive semesters during the academic year (Fall and Spring).
Professional Development Fund
The Professional Development Fund (PDF) is a yearly awarding entity that all TAs and GAs can apply for! Every year, graduate workers can submit an application for up to $1,000 to be reimbursed for any activity related to career or professional development, such as presenting at conferences, attending workshops, or even learning a new language! Even if you've submitted an application in the past, you can submit again!
The announcement for the PDF cycle typically occurs around the end of March, and TAs and GAs have until the beginning of May to submit their application. For more information on the PDF application, guidlines, and documentation, learn more on the NYS Governor's Office of Employee Relations.
